Artist Statement
My work explores individual and societal perceptions, the observations and responses that define ones personal narrative of any given circumstance.
These perceptions can be visual, auditory or tactile, referencing a multitude of responses to information received throughout the course of a painting. The resulting constructs often appear as surreal expressions of imaginary places and people or occasionally develop into energy driven abstractions of opposing elements and fractured planes. The direction of a piece is process driven, rarely a predetermined decision. At times the simplicity of colour and line in and of itself can be the means with which a reaction is expressed.
"Colour is my language of choice.
In its purest form it screams when I want to scream
and laughs out loud when I know I shouldn't.
Colour, with all of it's tints, tones and shades,
is the brilliant hush over early morning waters and
the soft hum that hugs the warm summer nights,
Black is my guardian and white my saving grace,
as moods are tangled in shades of grey
my voice is thick with colour."
